Ron Dart discusses George MacDonald's influence on CS Lewis. What was it about MacDonald that led Lewis to attribute every page of his own work to the inspiration of MacDonald?
Dart responds to the incredulity of John Piper, who (in an interview with Tim Keller) said that when he read MacDonald say he had 'turned in loathing from the God of Jonathan Edwards,' he 'felt stabbed' -- mainly because of Lewis' acknowledged dependence on MacDonald. Keller responded, "I’m not sure he (George MacDonald) was a Christian" and again, "I don’t consider George MacDonald a Christian author."
Ron Dart, much better acquainted with MacDonald, Lewis, their work and their thought, presents a different perspective take on MacDonald and the reasons for Lewis' appreciation of him.
