When you think of a rainbow what first comes to mind? Beautiful colors?
A covenant with man? A drunken, chubby leprechaun furtively attempting
to hide a pot of gold? (Who carries gold around in pots anyways? I
mean, really.)

In life we often remember the “good” and forget the “bad.”

Rainbow.

Rain…bow.

Did you ever notice that drawings of rainbows seldom show rain? Yet
without rain it just doesn’t work. For the rainbow is a combination of
wet and light, the reflection of the sun on water. Together something
beautiful occurs. How much rain is in our lives? Too much? Yet rain
brings growth. The rain nurtures and refreshes. We get wet in the rain
of life to God’s purpose and glory. But we still don’t always like it.

Yet this we can attest to. The best hot chocolate in the world you’ll
ever taste is enjoyed as you, having shucked your sodden clothing,
grasp the toasty mug in your soggy grip and bask in the encircling
warmth that radiates out from the fireplace. In that moment, in cozy
naked goodness, at one with the world, you realize that you are the
leprechaun and you drink a toast to the Maker; the Creator of rain and
rainbows.
